Our new Plotter, And new software!
- What is a plotter you may ask? A plotter is a machine that cuts out patterns for vehicle window tint, as well as paint protection film. In recent years, we relied on a single plotter for both tint and PPF, but in the past few months, the overwhelming number of installations has made it difficult to manage with just one machine. .
- Plotting paint protection film (PPF) on the old plotter takes longer due to several factors. For instance, Every time we switch to PPF we have to shut down the plotter and reset it to a different length. Then we change the blade, adjust the speed, angle, and the force at which the blade is cutting. While using this initial plotter we also have on more big issue, some pieces simply will not fit!
- Our old plotter was about forty inches while the new plotter is sixty inches long. That makes quite a dramatic difference in terms of what we can cut out in terms of PPF.
The software update
- The new software system we use to cut out patterns and styles of window tint and PPF is much more user friendly and easy to understand and navigate through versus our old software. With a fresher interface and style that has both upgraded and improved the patterns for your specific car’s needs.
Our newest plotter: Just out of state we found a Graphtec 8600 for sale. After some fitment and software checks we decided to make it a permanent upgrade in our shop to combat the amount of PPF that has been coming in this year.
Pushing Paint Protection, What's the deal with PPF?
PPF (or Paint Protection Film) is a next level style of protection for your car’s paint. Think of it as a screen protector for your car’s paint. It is made of a special thermoplastic polyurethane, or PTU. What makes it more than your average PTU is the specially engineered added layers that make that PTU into PPF. A self-healing layer on the top, a layer of UV protection in between and a strong adhesive on the bottom that bonds with every curve and dimple in your paint.
I know that may sound like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, but I can assure you that it is not only the best thing you can do to prolong the life of your cars paint, but also an exceedingly common thing for our clients to do. Over the last six months we have done more PPF than has been done in the last five years here. I’m not much of a math guy, but those numbers sure check out for me…
What does PPF really do?
When it comes to keeping your car safe from both the elements, and from other drivers on the road, I like to joke that this is a step or two down from armor plates.
- Paint protection film is going to be a barrier between rock chips, major scratches, chemical burns, sun fading, among other things. Your painting protection film is going to last you around ten years. And during those ten years, your paint is going to stay completely flawless under the correct maintenance.
- Under the layer of that strong and seamless paint protection film, your paint isn’t going to experience any damage from harmful UV rays, it isn’t going to swirl, it isn’t going to change shades, it isn’t going to chip, scratch, or peel under what the elements have to offer.
- Paint Protection Film is not for everyone, but In the last six months, plenty of our clients have either scheduled paint protection film installation or expressed interest in doing so.
- The benefit of being able to prolong the perfect look of your car’s paint is beyond revolutionary. No more rock chips from driving behind other cars on the interstate, or from rowdy drivers overtaking you on a back road. Replacing that fear that your paint is going to be struck by a rock chip, something that could potentially create a spot for rust to eat away at your paint, with the safety and comfort of knowing it will be protected by a top of the line team, and a top of the line product.
Our new hires at the shop
Isaac Melnick decided to become a member of the Keystone Detail team after noting that his earlier jobs did not leave him gaining anything, but with the positive work ethic and mindset that Keystone Detail pushes, as well as thorough training. He never leaves work each day without three things to be grateful for, and at least one thing learned.
Marcus Haynes, a loving father of four decided to Join the team at Keystone Detail because of his strong passion for all things cars. Marcus’s favorite car, and one he owned himself was a 1987 Camero z28 .
